BH THRASH METAL
EST. 2011

Payback was born in 2011, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Initially formed by Daniel Tulher (bass/vocals), Lucas Bispo (drums) and Michel Vasconcelos (guitar), the trio started early, with its members being between 15 and 16 years old. In 2012 the guitarist Bárbara Guieiro joined the band and from there came their first work, the demo “Toxic War”, which shows all the thrash/death influence of bands like Sodom, Destruction, Kreator and Death.

Between 2012 and 2015, Payback played some important shows, such as opening act for the swedish band Enforcer, however, the group suffered from an instability in the lineup that led to a hiatus in 2015.

In 2018, Daniel reformulates the band, inviting guitarists Nicolas Evangelista and Igor Gustavo and drummer Lilo. With this formation, the band consolidates itself, recording the first album, "Padecer", released in 2020 by Black Hole Productions, one of the most relevant underground labels in the country. The Thrash sound remains, but now with heavy doses of Hardcore and Death Metal. Influences range from classic bands like Demolition Hammer, Kreator and Razor to more current names like Power Trip, Warbringer and Enforced.

The band also released three music videos: the first of the song “Come Out to Play!”, recorded in a rehearsal; the second, from the song “Gado de Abate”, a humorous and acidic parody of the stereotype of “good citizens” and the “traditional Brazilian family", and the third, which is a lyric video of the song “Drowned In Mud ”, which recalls stories of sadness, despair and injustice from the tragedies of Mariana and Brumadinho, the greatest environmental and human crimes committed in Brazil.

"Padecer" was very well received by specialized critics, earning praise from magazines such as Roadie Crew, Raro Zine, Canal Scena and figures such as João Gordo, among others.

In 2021, Payback released the video "Ao Vivo no Matriz", which marks the return of the post-pandemic band in a presentation that marks the farewell to one of the most iconic venues in Belo Horizonte.

In 2022, after shows in southern Brazil, drummer Lilo leaves the band, Thiago Pena (Mata Borrão) takes over the drumsticks and the quartet enters the studio to record their second album.

In 2023, after recording the new album, Nicolas Evangelista decides to focus on his other band Nuclear Screams, then guitarist Pedro Duarte (Abyssal Agony) joins the band.  "Violent Ecstasy" album is ready and scheduled for release in August 2023.
